35 Jesus Calms the Sea Matthew 8:23-27; Luke 8:22-25That day, when evening had come, he said to them, “Let's cross to the other side.”Matt 8:18, 23; Luke 8:22 36 So they left the crowd and took him along in the boat just as he was. ^{▼▼I.e. without making any special preparations} Other boats were with him. 37 A violent windstorm came up, and the waves began breaking into the boat, so that the boat was rapidly ^{▼▼Lit. already} becoming swamped.

38 But Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. he} was in the back of the boat, asleep on a cushion. So they woke him up and said to him, “Teacher, don't you care that we're going to die?”

39 Then he got up, rebuked the wind, and said to the sea, “Hush! Be still!” Then the wind stopped blowing, and there was a great calm. 40 He said to them, “Why are you such cowards? Don't you have any faith yet?”

41 They were overcome with fear and kept saying to one another, “Who is this man? Even the wind and the sea obey him!”

23 Now as they were sailing, Jesus ^{▼▼Lit. he} fell asleep. A violent storm swept over the lake, and they were taking on water and were in great danger. 24 So they went to him, woke him up, and said, “Master! Master! We're going to die!” He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waves. They stopped, and there was calm.

25 Then he asked the disciples, ^{▼▼Lit. them} “Where is your faith?”

Frightened and amazed, they asked one another, “Who is this man? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him!”
